Invisalign

So I'm a bit old for braces...so I opted for Invisalign braces.  I really got them for my bottom teeth, but my top teeth could use a bit of straitening also.  Plus you need to move both top and bottom anyway so they match.  Now they have technology where they use a handheld wand to scan your mouth - better than waiting for a mold to set but still a bit time consuming and sometimes painful when holding the wand a certain way.  They sent me home with an appointment to come back 2 weeks later.

So yesterday was my first fitting...I sat in the seat and waited for them to give me my braces...when the lady was preparing something...I was like, what is that?  It's bump attachments, to give the braces something to grab onto she said.  Okay, I hope they are hidden somewhere in the back I thought to myself.  NOPE!  She glued on little "bumps" to 6 teeth (3 on each side of my face) top and bottom.  They are to help the teeth rotate. So much for invisible!  I wasn't told about any bump attachments!  If you read a bunch of forums, which I did when I got home, I found out a lot of people aren't told about them...you are fortunate if you have them in the back somewhere, but mines are on the front sides, so it's easy to see.  The Invisalign braces have bumps on them to accommodate the bump or buttons as they are sometimes called.  SIGH.

So after gluing the attachments, they sand them down so they would feel a bit more comfortable in your mouth, for when you take off the braces and actually eat.  They put in the braces...felt tight but not at all painful so I was happy with that.  Showed me how to put them in and out, gave me quick instructions about cleaning and I was on my way.  I am to change them every 2 weeks (I have 5 other replacements with me).  And I was advised it was better to change them at night this way come morning, they will be easier to take in and out.  I took out the last pack and didn't see much of a change...but I'm sure much later, like 15th pack I'll see a major difference.  I also have 2 cases, one for the previous Invisaligns and one for the current. I asked why I had to keep the previous set, they say in case the new set doesn't fit quite right, they would have me keep in the last set for a few days more.  Got it, makes sense.  So off I went!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS....

First thing I noticed, was it felt super weird.  I can't clamp down my teeth at all.  And it felt weird to drink too...which by the way, I could only drink clear liquids with them ON, if not I'll have to take them off.  Pain in the neck?  Yes, but that's the price I pay.

Second thing I noticed was the speech impediment.  Great.  Now I stalk funny.  LOL it's not that bad...but I do notice a huge difference in my pronunciation of things, but thankfully I read I will adjust within a few days or weeks.

Third and most annoying thing to me...is the increase in salivation!  My body thinks I have something in my mouth, therefore I'm constantly salivating!  Drove me crazy by nightfall...but I read your body adjusts in a matter of days or weeks.  I'm waiting!!!

Fourth thing, when you take them out to eat, you start chewing funny...your mouth was getting used to a new position, but then to chew, it starts chewing the old way or somewhere in between and then OW!!!!!!!!!  You just bit your cheek.  I did that a lot and had to make myself chew slower.

Lastly, you must brush your teeth after every meal or snack before you put them in.  If you put them back in without brushing, you will feel icky.  Plaque will build up and you will put your gums in jeopardy.  So yay fun, I have to brush my teeth EVERYWHERE I go.  At work, in restaurants, etc.  I will definitely be doing much less snacking!  Which is great....I'm trying to lose weight anyway.

So last night was my first night wearing them.  I went through a whole ritual, brushing, flossing then pop them back in and went to sleep.  Woke up with them feeling a lot more comfortable.  Needed to have my coffee so I dunked them in denture cleaner and had my coffee.  I was really told to brush them with water or mild soap but I read other people saying denture cleaner worked just fine to keep gunk off.  Gross I know.  I'm going to be OCD about keeping them super sparkly and clean.  Feels odd to have them off but I had my coffee, brushed and put them back in.  I think I will skip right to lunch today!  Such a pain to be brushing all the time.  I think it will be a good habit though.  I bought Colgate's "Optic White" and should have whiter teeth in the process.

I read a girl who blogged about her first week with Invisalign and then she didn't update her progress.  So I will probably glance at a few other blogs today.  Who knows, I might do the same thing.  Ha ha.  I'll try to update with my progress and experience with it.  It's helpful to read other's experiences.

Purchase Reviews!

Just wanted to post a mini review on the items I bought recently...some of you wanted updates. Well here it is! I'll go in order.

The Good: Like I mentioned before, the mascara alone is $20, so you are getting a bargain by buying this set. I am completely and utterly in love with the mascara! It is my favorite item in the whole set! I am hooked, and can see myself tossing all my drugstore mascaras out the window! Only bad thing is, it dries rather quckly.  GRRR.... I was pleasantly surprised by the pink cheek tint...I thought it wouldn't go well with my skin tone, and it gave a nice warm pink flush. I would say it's pretty safe for most skin tones! The waterproof clay shadow/liner is just top of the line quality. It glides on your lids and is just the richest darkest black...with my makeup skills, I'm probably not doing it justice! The brush to apply the liner is decent, although I prefer the angled kind, like pictured here. The eyeshadow duo goes on smooth, it's PERFECT for everyday use...it's very subtle, I would have liked a shadow duo with a bit more oomph myself.

The Bad: There's not much bad in this set, besides the pink cheek tint and the clay liner not being full size, but I could live with that. They make good travel companions!

Final word: The mascara alone makes this set worth it, so if you're interested in getting a few good quality additions to your make up collection, buy it!

The Good: Has a clean scent! Literally MELTS into your skin. This is the lightest moisturizer I've tried that does the trick. Perfect for warmer climates. It's also full of antioxidants and wrinkle fighters as also mildly exfoliates. It's made without sulfates, synthetic fragrances or dyes and Petrochemicals. I don't know what Petrochemicals are, but I certainly don't want them in my beauty products!

The Bad: A bit pricey. Doesn't contain SPF. But there's hope! (Get it?) They make one that has 25 SPF, and that will be my next purchase. (Right now I'm using it as my night cream).

Final Word: If you don't mind splurging on skin care, this is a definite must. If you like light creams, you will definitely like if not love this product.

My Shoe Dazzle Membership

The last pair I bought from them was this one: Maureen

I didn't like the shoe. I LOVED IT. It was comfortable, not too high and got mega compliments. Now a lot of people don't know how this shoe club works. In fact I was so hesitant to join that it took me a few months before I actually did. Let me just clear up the myths. First of all, you don't pay a monthly fee. How it works is, you create your shoe profile by selecting a bunch of shoes you like. Then their "stylists" send their top 5 shoes that they think you will like. At the beginning of every month, you will get an email telling you your showroom is ready. You now have a few days to visit your showroom - you either see something you like and buy, or simply say "Skip This Month". If you buy something, you pay $39.99 including shipping and you get it in a few business days. If you skip the month, you don't get charged at all. What happens if you forgot to "skip"? Then you get charged $39.99 and it is kept as a credit towards a future purchase. But I haven't had any problems forgetting to check out my selection.

The Good: You can always find coupon codes online taking a certain percentage off your purchase! Last pair I spent $33 including shipping and it was so worth it. Another bonus is buying BOOTS on this site. You get your money's worth buying cute synthetic boots - so stylish yet inexpensive. Shoe Dazzle has certainly vamped up my shoe collection, gave me more incentive to dress up when I go out because you now have a killer new pair of shoes to pair with those skinny jeans. :)

The Bad: If you're real forgetful and not on top of your emails, you could forget to check your showroom and get credits stacking up on your account.

That's all I have for reviews right now, stay tuned for my next post which will be on my favorite drugstore items! I am a self-proclaimed drugstore whore!

The Shopping Bug

Now, I've been feeling the travel bug...but since I know that I won't be going anywhere anytime soon (for obvious reasons) I've put that little bugger to rest. I've been hit with a different type of bug, and this one I have to keep feeding to quell. It's the shopping bug!

Maybe it's because it's close to Xmas time, and all those adverts are up. Maybe it's the good deals they advertise...or maybe I simply haven't been shopping in a while and need to get it out of my system! The other night as I was about to go to bed, I was flipping channels and QVC was on. On it they were advertising this 4 piece make up set by Tarte. Immediately my eyes were glued, as I love make up, especially good quality make up. Then they used some magic words: "Natural ingredients". Uh oh, I'm in trouble. I watched in awe as they took this girl's lashes and made them POP with their mascara. The beige and taupe eyeshadow included in the kit is a staple item! It also comes with a clay liner, and I've already been accustomed to applying eye liner with a brush. The well-acclaimed cheek stain in the kit gave the model a rosy glow. The entire kit was just $29 bucks. I went to Sephora.com and saw the mascara alone costs $20. Ah that's exactly what I was looking for! Justification! Then they were on to the next thing, which was "Hope in a Jar" moisturizer by Philosophy. As they rambled on about the benefits, I thought to myself that I've always wanted to try Philosophy products. The more they talked about it, the more I was sold. It took all the willpower I had to shut the TV off and go to sleep. That's why it sucks having at TV in your bedroom.

In the morning, those products were the first thing that popped into my mind. I let the day progress, and finally I buckled down. Darn you QVC!!! I Ordered the Tarte Amazonian Clay 4 piece set at QVC.com and got myself a 2 oz jar of "Hope in a Jar" from eBay. It was, after all one of Oprah's favorite things.

The shopping, well, it didn't stop there. Unfortunately, I get emails from ShoeDazzle.com, and I saw a pair that caught my eye since I was looking for a good pair of beige shoes. This one had a 2.75" heel that was faux-python. I was in love...so I just had to get it. After telling a few people about it, they warned me - "Don't buy shoes now, you're feet are going to swell and you may even grow a size" Eek! I sorta knew that in the back of my mind but wanted to ignore it. If I ignore that once fact, maybe it won't happen to me! I'm already a size 9 for goodness sake, I can't imagine even getting bigger! If I have to resort to wrapping my foot like the Asians did in the past, I'll do it! Let me search for "foot wrapping" on YouTube, I'm sure someone has a video out there!

I think I awakened the beast. Instead of buying a few items to feed this little critter, I'm looking for more opportunities to buy! "I haven't bought a nice pair of designer sunglasses in a while" I thought to myself. NO NO NO! Bad! I'm just simply going to have to be patient, wait for my packages arrive and enjoy each of the 3 things I bought. I'm going to be good until January...hopefully!

It's Been 7 Hours and 15 Days...

Well, not really. It's actually been 1 year, 4 months and 2 days since my last blog post. Talk about a leave of absence! Lately I've felt the urge to write...but instead of writing of recent travels or experiences, I'll write about something near and dear to my heart: Shopping!

Bittersweet Month of August

We are in the month of August. My cousin Saskia turned 16 the other day...16! Can you believe it? That means my cat Kira (who resides with an Aunt) has also recently turned 16. Makes sense that she would live long, she was pretty evil in her younger years...ha. The middle of the month is a good time, it's Anniversary time. But what makes August bittersweet is another anniversary, not the good kind. It marks 16 years since my uncle's death. 16 years! What the heck?? It's so weird how after someone's passing, time and LIFE just goes on. Before you know it, you look back and like a blink, all those years were so long ago even though the feelings of loss and pain can still hurt like yesterday...

Well we all know time is moving and we can't do anything to stop it...but every once in a while, we can stop and remember with love, those who live in our memories.

Can I Just NOT Work Today...& EVERYDAY?

I'm sick of work, I'm sick of money, I'm sick of bills...I just don't wanna anymore. I haven't been the only one singing this tune lately. I think because life got harder, we all just want to throw in the towel. Do we really have to keep paying our bills? The cost of living ever increases. And THEN, I get this travel itch…there are sooo many places I’d like to go. I want to visit friends; I have friends in so many states and countries. Want to do a month long road trip. See places. I’m sick of the everyday hustle. I’m sick of the stress. Do I really have to pop a kid to be a housewife? I just want to stay home…I think I’ll be happy…I’ll wake up, study, clean house…take a class in something. Sure it might get boring. Sure I might even miss working. Wish I could just work whenever I wanted to vs. needing to.

Today I woke up feeling so blah. Sure I can make my own hours for work…but if I’m not working, there’s a guilt that looms over me. Maybe I should just take this day…take it and do what I want with it. Oh…the woes of being an adult!

Jon & Kate SPLIT 8???

When I first saw this show, I was mesmerized by the fact that this couple had 8 children and were pretty good and managing all the kids. A few episodes in, I noticed how controlling Kate is...she belittles her husband, corrects him constantly and never holds back in letting him know how he doesn't measure up to her standards - all the while on national television.

I fell in love with the children and tried to ignore Kate's narrating. The children are so smart, cute and have their own personalities...

I hope for the children's sake that they try and work things out. I know that the majority will side with Jon - despite the supposed indiscretions because of how he's treated publicly. But all should know there are always two sides of the story. They definitely should have turned off the cameras and focused on having a normal life...doesn't mean it's not too late to do it now.

::Hugs:: to the children!

This Blog Is Suffering - Confessions of a FB Addict

Yeah, this blog is not updated on a regular basis since my life has been taken over by FB...I apologize! But who can resist a site which instantly and constantly reports what your friends (and frenemies - come on, we've all got them) are doing - what pictures they're posting, who's pic's they're commenting on...and OOH! The quizzes!! And games...it's never ending.

Of course, not all of us are addicted, some know how to give it it's proper place...but for the most part, I find myself checking it on a regular basis. Probably a lot more than I should. And we get to post pretentious pics of ourselves and our friends too! Make status updates since everyone cares about our wonderful lives...and get little ego boosts from friends rewarding us on our wittiness by clicking on that new added feature the "like" link. :) And when we upload an album of pics, BOOM - comments flood in...how exciting! LOL...Ah technology. How crazy is it, that life was SO different 10-15 years ago?

Lately, I started playing Pet Society, in which you create a pet, then earn money to buy clothes and furniture and you can decorate your house. Funny, it's just a simple game imitating life yet it manages to keep us entertained...that is, until the next new popular game arrives.

Since I work for myself (right now at least) I don't have to worry about what I do on my computer. I sort of feel bad for the people who have to be careful at work...if I were at an office, I probably would be doing the same! Doesn't mean I still have to watch my time though...it cuts into productivity...but I can't bring myself to not check during the daytime "work" hours. It's hard because, we never have enough time as it is, so add FB to the mix and it spells disaster. I joked about a friend that our evening goes like this:

Turn washing machine on ::FB:: Put clothes in ::FB:: Turn stove on ::FB:: Put food in pan ::FB:: Put clothes in dryer ::FB:: Eat ::FB:: Wash dishes ::FB:: Fold Clothes ::FB::

If you're not careful, it can suck up a lot of time, so sometimes you just gotta turn off the computer! Sometimes it's reasonable...like when you are taking a break. For instance, I washed and mini-detailed my car. I needed a break so...FB! (Right now I actually have to start cleaning my bathroom...it's getting late so it may just be a mini-detail thing like what I did with my car, but it will have to do).

Speaking of productivity...my next blog post will be about my iTouch ipod (basically like an iPhone, but w/o calling capabilities) & how some apps actually make life easier! Uh, and no I'm not talking about the handy level!

New License Plate

In the next few weeks we are going to get a 2nd car...most likely I will be the one driving it since I do more driving due to work. Anyway, I'm SICK AND TIRED of people asking me what my license plate means! I didn't make it, Anthony did, and he put his 'tarded nickname there. So needless to say, I get questioned constantly.

So, I need your help...give me suggestions of what I should put on MY plate!

I'm pretty bad at this stuff and can't think of anything good. I was gonna put "EAT CAKE" because of my name (ha ha). So....think of something and let me know! I might just use it! :)

No Pics This Weekend

I had a great weekend in the company of Lisa, Pete, Stef & JP but sadly we didn't take any photos! What the heck? Actually, I know why I'm not eager to whip out my lil' point & shoot. It's an Olympus cam, it can go underwater and is pretty cool. But I'm really not impressed by the quality of these little camera's anymore...When I dabbled in photography a while back, it was an SLR camera - but it's film. I don't want to get rid of it, because film pics are still cool to me, they have that grain that you just don't get with digital. The only reason why I'm not going trigger happy with it now is because I'm too broke to pay for developing. I've done it for many years, and it really adds up. Now I'm really wishing for a Nikon D60 - no, not because Ashton is promoting it, but because Stef told me last night, it rivals Canon Rebel but is much simpler to manage. I like simplicity. I really really really wanna get back into taking pics again...artistically...although it is a challenge in south Florida because I feel in NY I relied mainly on the coolness of "The Big City" to make my shot cool. Anyway, I may take out my Canon SLR and just not develop the pics until much later, make like a time capsule of it. OR I can learn how to develop my own pics. On a related note, Lisa is into knitting now - and since giving up on knitting a while back because I felt it was too complicated for me, I may just pick it up again. :) It would be cool to know how to knit things.

Just Played Coffee Shop Online...

It makes you CRAVE coffee the minute you start playing it! Weird. I don't have coffee daily anymore...I think I mainly was hooked on it because of the caffeine more than I was to the actual taste. So make sure you brew a cup before you play!

I made $19 bucks, which I thought was okay...but when I clicked at the high scores, people made $1000!

Tag, You're It!

I got "tagged" on a note on Facebook, where a friend wrote 20 random facts about herself. You're supossed to write 20 things about yourself, then tag 20 other people.

Just thought I'd share what I wrote on this blog...

1. I am a born procrastinator. This list was supposed to be done yesterday.

2. I am afraid of change, yet when it comes I endure gracefully.

3. Although I’ve been through a lot of uncertainty, I’ve learned a lot from being outside my comfort zone.

4. I learned to read at the age of 3 ½, skipped Kindergarten and was put in 1st grade top class after reading in front of the Principal. (Don’t know if they have “top class” anymore).

5. I am a neat freak…yet sometimes the house gets messy. I procrastinate and don’t clean it for a while, and then I get my days with bursts of energy where I clean for hours.

6. I fear childbirth, and the thought of a child changing my life forever. If it happens, it WILL be planned, and still then, I will probably be terrified…I fear the unknown.

7. I miss my husband when he’s away, but thoroughly enjoy my time alone.

8. My nickname used to be brat. USED to be.

9. When I’m flipping channels, and see Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, or Girls Next Door – I can’t help but watch the train wrecks…

10. I’ve done some traveling in my lifetime – Canada, England, Wales, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, France, Italy, Spain, Philippines – that’s 10 countries…(I’m probably forgetting one) stopped over in Taiwan, and whilst on a train from Paris to Rome we drove through Switzerland – does that count as 11 and 12? I love travel and suffer from the travel bug from time to time. I have a lot of new countries that I would like to explore…but am dying to go back to Italy.

11. I’ve slept at a hostel while traveling.

12. I’m going to take motorcycle lessons one day and surprise my husband…well, it won’t be a surprise if he sees this.

13. I used to draw and write poetry as a teenager while locked up in my room. I miss doing creative things sometimes.

14. I still write in a journal…I contemplate burning my collection just in case I die. I don’t really read my past entries…

15. I met quite a few celebrities while living in NY.

16. Grunge or Hip Hop? I was “Grunge” for a few years in H.S.

17. I accidentally ran over a kitten in my driveway. I was traumatized for a few…

18. I have a half sister who looks a lot like me, since she is also half Dominican and Filipino and we are a month apart. I also have a bunch of half bro’s and sisters that I have never met, including my own father.

19. I love Karaoke, and have some cherished memories of singing in Chelsea Piers…why oh why did that have to end?

20. I love makeup and makeup sales. I recently spent $2 bucks on a brand name eye pencil. Oh yeah, and I am a product junkie…my bathroom is STOCKED.

My Place...

...is a mess. I have a luggage from NY that I haven't even unpacked yet, I have laundry that needs attention, I have to vacuum, tidy up, put stuff away....SIGH. And all I wanna do when I get home from work is just crash. It's not as bad as it sounds...would probably take a couple hours of tackling...but boy oh boy do I procrastinate.

Feeling Blue

I'm really feeling blue...that is, the color of this blog! Yeah, I changed the template and like this one a lot. The pink one didn't really feel right. What I like about this template and the last one, is the 3 columns. When searching for templates, I really didn't like the ones with right navigation. I like it on the left for some reason.

Anyway, my favorite show Lost is coming back this month, also Fringe. Here is an alternate ending to last season of Lost. Yeah, if it were Sawyer, that will KILL the ratings next season, LOL! I'm not sure if all the new stuff from last season is sitting well with me...all the new characters, the past and future flash backs - the future ones make me kinda uneasy, as well as the creepy visits from Island folk. I just saw a few minutes of a rerun of the episode where Sun had her baby and we learn of Jin's fate. It totally sucks. But I'm still hooked. Oh well.

And for those who haven't seen this yet, it's totally sad yet hilarious at the same time...it's a remix of "I'm Walking On Sunshine" Starring Allison from Intervention.

Wow, It's Been A Long Time

I joined Facebook and forgot all about Blogger. So it's been a while since my last post. Well, what's new lately? Everything. My life is in a constant state of flux. Keeps me from being bored I guess. Well since my last post, I've had a few visitors. The Tea Queen of Astoria for one. She had a good time, although I wished she had more time to spend. I also wished I wasn't as broke so I could actually do stuff. You don't realize how much money is linked to activities and options nowadays until you find yourself broke one day. I took a couple of weeks off due to the holidays. It sort of feels good to get working again. 2009 is a new year. This year, I'm shooting for some things to happen. A friend recently said "09 is all mine" - lol. It's a good way to start the year I guess... Your mindset has a lot of control over the outcome.

I was in NY recently...short trip really...it was very cold. I wanted to shoot myself. I'm back in 70 degree weather. Don't hate me.

PINK

As you notice...my blog is pink. For now. I find it strange that although I'm a female, I don't have a love for pink like other girls do. I wonder if it is fed by parents...that if there were a choice, the boy would automatically get the blue item, and the girl pink. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the boy should be given pink...but society might be an influence in color preference. I like blue. I was in no way, shape or form influenced to like pink...(although the barbies I played with had a lot of pink outfits, pink accessories, etc). I mean, did the car or dream house ever come in a different color? My favorite color is blue...I've decided. My room is blue, and a lot of my tops I noticed are aqua blue. Maybe it's because it goes better with my skin, I don't know. It sort of makes me feel weird that I'm not a pink person because pink represents femininity...I mean, could you even imagine Victoria's Secret w/o the pink and red hues? Look at their clothing line: "PINK" They didn't just pick a color from a hat! The very word represents femininity. Well, At least they have a variety of other colors! Oh well! Guess it's time for me to pick a new blog template, LOL.

Change

All of you know, I deal wonderfully and gracefully with change as a hockey player dancing ballet. Well tonight, I'm about to embark on yet another new chapter in my life. My husband's half sister is moving in and I'm curious to know how things will play out. Okay, anxious to know if you will. I think things should be fine as long as we communicate always, and no matter what keep our number 1 priorities the same.

Peace out, word to yo' mother!

What Your Taste in Music Says About You

What Your Taste in Music Says About You

Your musical tastes are intense and rebellious.

You are intelligent... but in a very unconventional way.

You are curious about the world. You love doing something new.

In fact, you enjoy taking risks and doing things most people would shy away from.

You are very physical. It's likely that you're athletic, but not into team sports.

You have the soul of an artist. Beauty and harmony are important to you.

Back Home

I did NOT take pics on this trip...how unfortunate. I've been meaning to take pics of NY...because in all my life living there I don't think I have decent city shots. This visit was different, because it's colder now - and I rode the subway a lot. I don't know, I used to like the subway...not really love it, but I didn't mind it so much. Now, I'm not a big fan...my last train ride I was smooshed up against people - not a great feeling at all. Welcome to NYC!

Gata and I did see an actress in the city...she is better known as the lead actress in First Knight with Heath Ledger...Shannyn Sossamon. Her son was with her and he had this annoying microphone thingy that made his voice sound robotic. I almost died when Gata texted me that she did a wiki on her and found out her son's name was "Audio Science" so he's really living up to his name! LOL...

Tonight I went to this grand opening of a Mexican restaurant...food, drinks and dessert were FREE. It was great. Not everyday you get to eat for free!
